May 30, 2005 - Crown Point
The LOFS Dive Rescue & Recovery Team held it's monthy training this week in Crown Point. Training was in the form of a 'real time' drill.

The dive team was called out to meet with police investigating a report of a possible drowning. Upon arrival police advised our dive team that construction workers near a pond reported seeing a dog and a bicycle at the water's edge for the past 3 hours.

Scene command called the phone number on the dog's ID collar. The person answering the call reported that her husband left several hours ago with the dog. It was determined that a recovery dive was necessary for the scenario. At that time Crown Point Fire was asked to respond.

Divers began with PPCS pattern dives searching from the water's edge and out about 30 ft. Several divers combed the East shore without a find.

Asst. Chief Radtke then ordered the divers to perform a shore driven V-Pattern search. After several dives no recovery was found.

After several hours of searching it was reported that the subject missing had returned home after looking for his dog that had run off.

The dive team cleared the scene at 11 am.
