Our first order of business was to submerge the vehicle. The vehicle hit the water hard as seen in this picture. |
![]() |
As seen here the vehicle floated for about 50 feet. |
![]() |
After about 60 seconds the vehicle began its decent. |
![]() |
Rapidly the vehicle dove nose first beneath the surface. |
![]() |
In just over 1 minute the vehicle was total submerged. |

Our divers were then called to the scene. Several search methods were practiced. A rapid search was made to rescue victims inside. A longer, more thorough search and recovery was practiced in order to preserve evidence. In all each diver made at least three dives. |
![]() The LOFS Fire Department has a strict, zero tolerance policy at a dive scene: EVERYONE WEARS A PFD (PERSONAL FLOATATION DEVICE). Here a diver is directed by a line tender while Safety Officer Bob Greaney keeps and records times and pertinent information. |
![]() Here, Firefighter Eshelman records a diver's air supply before and after a dive. A record is kept of a diver's pre-dive air supply, dive time, and post-dive air supply. |
